Chuck Tanner (chuckforchairman.com) will fight to stop the commuter rail line. He makes a quick mention of it on his website. The rail is a bad idea. Millions of dollars to provide a service for less than 2% of the population that would pay for it. Name one mass transportation service in the country that is successful (generates money). There isn't one. Many of them are drug and gang infested. Let's make some noise about getting this rail thing off the table for good.

I have lived here in Hampton for over 30 years. I was recently pulled over by a Hampton Police Officer. She was professional and courteous. I was issued a ticket and I WAS guilty of the violation. I am very proud of our Police Department and the officers working there. I am grateful they patrol like they do. Keeping MY city as safe as it is to live in.

About McBrayer's qualifications, It's all about him, and what he has done, where is his plan? Do you want a man who knows the current jail system inside out, or do you want someone who does not have political ties to the senator, a commissioner and solicitor, and other politicians and the race track? It seems to me that the Deputies would be better off voting for and electing someone who "Its Not All About!" Elect someone who is approachable and has not asked for or done political favors. O.K. McBrayer does not own a security company. I challenge you to investigate this: Hundreds of Deputies and Police Officers will be assigned duty to work at the Track by McBrayer. They will turn their hours in to McBrayer, the Track will send them a check!! McBrayer is compensated by the Track, and makes these arrangements on County/Tax Payer time, office, phone, vehicle, gas, etc. Yes, he might take a vacation this year, the week of the big races, but these arrangements are made months before events, and all summer long for each event held at the Track. As a matter of fact, he is giving out Race Track time now, for the March race.

Re: Oh, I've noticed. I've also called the police non-emergency number numerous times from my child's high school parking lot. They told me to call and talk to the SRO at the school. I told them I would have but he was standing outside with the Principal watching these kids leaving the parking lots (speeding, swerving, passing cars, etc.) doing nothing. All it will take is one kid to get a ticket and maybe the others will learn. But, probably not!! I have witnessed way too many times kids leaving the school area playing chicken on the highway (and not a great one at that-narrow, hilly, bumpy). I have called but nothing happens. Because the City collects a hotel/motel tax from people staying in the City and the State of Georgia requires that a certain percentage of that money be spent on tourism. In short, because of state law. The City gets to keep and spend the rest of the money on anything. Its a great deal. Outsiders funding your city.

As far as being “great and important”, I think the rape victim would think it is important for the rapist to be caught by the police. Police do a job most don’t have the stomach for; when the bullets start flying they go towards them, while everyone else runs away. Ask the folks in third world countries that have no law enforcement, only roaming bands of thugs and warlords, how “lucky” they feel.
Just like any profession, 2% of cops make all the rest look bad. But don’t worry, the other 98% will still risk their lives for you, even if you wouldn’t do the same for them!

I love how you start a sentence with “I am not bashing cops”, and then spend a paragraph bashing cops. 181 Officers gave their lives in the line of duty last year, and 20 have already been killed this year. I am trying to figure why gas is as high as it is. The government keeps putting out this story about China is buying up the gas now. I find that hard to believe. All of what I see is that the Chinese are paid some 30 cents an hour and up to 50 cents an hour. How can they afford a $3 gal gas? We are being B.S.ed I think. What do you think? They surely can't afford a car either. Also what happened to that nickel we started paying the feds on a gal of gas for the roads. What are they doing with that money?

Why do the policemen in Hampton, GA have so much time on their hands. Since relocating to Hampton, after driving for 20 years my spouse has been pulled over 5 times and and I had the joyful experience of being pulled over last evening. I was going 22 miles an hour in a 25 miles per hour I pulled over and asked the officer why he pulled me over for light above my license plate was out. I adv him I was unaware and I would go immediately to fix, expecting a warning he gave me 30.00 ticket and said you can discuss it in court and walked away without another word. Is this how we are paying for the improvements that are desired Hampton?

Finally someone has something educated to say. You are so right. I knew someone who got pulled over for passing a school bus and was arrested. Granted it could have been disastrous but it was not. I think that was a little much.

Sent vent last night about the multi-million Tussahaw Water Plant that I saw on Atlanta t.v. the other night that has major problems and hasn't been operating for several months, and was shown on t.v. with empty basins, and it is going to raise HCWSA customers water and wastewater bills way up.
